United snuck home against Glory in the opening round of the season, putting two past the West Aussies at ME Bank Stadium after Perth were reduced to 10 men with 25 minutes remaining.
The Glory boys are on a three game streak without loss but will again have to dig deep with 11 of their 16 contracted players unavailable. A combination of injury and study commitments has severely limited Coach Gareth Naven-s options this weekend, a trend that has unfortunately been the case throughout the 2009/10 campaign.
To cover the shortfall Perth has brought in quality replacements from the state-s NTC programme plus senior listed youngsters including Howard Fondyke, Brent Griffiths and goal keeper Aleks Vrteski.
“It certainly is difficult to get any consistency in our line-ups with so many people unavailable however the boys that take to the park have shown plenty of enthusiasm and should be commended on their efforts,” Naven said.
“It-s an opportunity for other players to show what they can offer and we-re fortunate to have a crop of young players who are very eager to do that.
“We saw last time we played Gold Coast that they like to attack so we need to be on our toes.”
