Young Glory go down to Mariners

Perth Glory-s Youth Team has succumbed to late free kick which handed Central Coast the points in their clash at Members Equity Stadium.

A wonderful 86th minute free kick from Glen Trifiro gave the visitors the edge on the scoreboard while they also enjoyed the edge in experience with five Hyundai A-League players taking their place in the Mariners youth team line-up.

Glory midfielder Reece Vittiglia had nodded the Glory ahead on the hour but the Mariners responded through Darko Vidovic’s lobbed goal in the 70th minute before Trifiro’s free kick curled around the wall and deceived Dejan Aleksic in the Perth goal with four minutes remaining.

The result takes the Mariners off the bottom of the National Youth League table and into sixth position, while the Glory maintains fourth spot.

Playing in front of their home fans Perth started the better of the two sides with midfielder Adam Luca creating a couple of quality chances. With 19 minutes gone Luca fired one directly at Andrew Redmayne in the Mariners’ goal before seeing another effort smothered by the ‘keeper a minute later.

A short time later a golden chance fell to 16-year-old Perth striker Eli Bablj who forced a great reaction save from Redmayne.

After scoring in the opening round against the Mariners Ludovic Boi had another opportunity to add to his account but scuffed an effort from a dangerous position after receiving a quality ball from Vittiglia.

Glory finally broke through after the restart when they caught Central Coast napping, Hayden Doyle sending in a powerful cross from the right that was met with a glancing header from Vittiglia.

Eight minutes later Scott Bulloch missed a great opportunity to double the advantage as he found himself free with the ball in the area but sent his effort over the bar.
