Westfield’s glorious afternoon

Perth Glory coach Dave Mitchell has given some lucky children a coaching experience they will never forget.

Perth Glory coach Dave Mitchell has given some lucky children a coaching experience they will never forget.

As part of Football Australia-s centralised partnership with Westfield, 35 football-mad children won the opportunity to be involved in a specialised coaching clinic with Mitchell.

Glory players Aleks Vrteski and Naum Sekolivski were also there to help out, as was Perth-s strength and conditioning coach Pete Cklamovski.

After taking the children on a warm-up jog, everyone was spilt into groups and worked on dribbling a football through cones. Mitchell and the lads were there to coach the kids through the activity and give them tips on improving their skills.

Once the first drill was over, everyone kept our goal keeper Vrteski on his toes by shooting some magnificent penalties. Many of the youngsters hit the back of the net and Vrteski was busy making some great saves.

In the meantime, some of the younger boys and girls played a modified game of football, where they were divided into two teams and each person was given a number. When their numbers were called the kids had to run into the middle and try to score a goal.

The final activity was an all-in game of football and both the coaches and players were there to lend their experience to the teams. Everyone had a great time playing alongside their Perth Glory favourites and even learnt a thing or two from their heroes.

An eventful afternoon was rounded off with some glorious questions and every child went home with prizes and signed posters.
