Glory youngsters set to face EPL giants

Glory’s 16-year-old age-group side will be among illustrious company at the JSSL Professional Academy 7s tournament set to take place in Padang, Singapore in April.

Liverpool and Manchester United will also be sending teams to the event, along with fellow-English club Fulham, Spanish La Liga powerhouse Valencia, leading Japanese outfit Urawa Red Diamonds and hosts JSSL FC.

Glory made a huge impression at last year’s event when they reached the final before being edged out 2-0 by Portuguese giants Sporting Lisbon, a side they had actually beaten earlier in the tournament.

Riley Warland (pictured) and Trent Ostler are among those backing up for the WA side this time around and Head Coach John Gibson is relishing the prospect of seeing his young charges pit their wits against elite opposition.

“We produced a really pleasing performance to reach the final of what was the inaugural JSSL 7s last year,” he said, “and that’s why we’ve been invited back.

“It’s a bigger tournament this year in terms of the increased number of high-profile clubs attending and it’s going to be a tough challenge.

“But I’m really looking forward to exposing our youngsters to that level of competition and seeing how they get on.”
