Todd fired up for Friday night showdown

Perth Glory defender Andy Todd says the short five-day break between games this week is a “good thing”.

Perth Glory defender Andy Todd says the short five-day break between games this week is a “good thing”.

Two days after the team-s first loss of the season, 1-nil against Gold Coast, the star defender is still upset.

“It’s the manner which we got beat. We went down without a fight on Sunday,” Todd said.

“But on Friday night against the Newcastle Jets we have a chance to get it out of the system.

“We’ve got a bit of a bad taste in the mouth and Friday gives us a good chance to get it out of the system.

“It was a disappointing performance from everybody.

“I don’t think there are any excuses. I just think on the day we weren’t good enough, we weren’t quite at the races.”

After missing the first four weeks of the season with a knee injury and illness, Todd has returned to action as a substitute against Wellington and Gold Coast but isn-t sure if he-ll start against the Jets.

“We had a practice game as well last week so I managed to get 60 minutes in that,” Todd said.

“But the only way to get fit is by playing games, so yeah (I want to start).”

The Glory will depart Perth on Wednesday for the clash.
