Taggart at the double in friendly win

Two first-half goals from Adam Taggart helped Glory ease to a comfortable 3-0 pre-season friendly victory over Perth SC.

Andy Keogh added the third on the hour-mark as Kenny Lowe’s side produced an accomplished display in front of a healthy crowd at Dorrien Gardens.

Mitch Nichols and Rostyn Griffiths both caught the eye with strong performances in midfield and the game also saw Chris Harold, Joseph Mills and Shane Lowry make their first appearances of pre-season as the visitors successfully ramped up their preparations for next week’s Westfield FFA Cup tie against Heidelberg United.

Glory dominated the opening period almost from the outset and came within inches of taking the lead on 13 minutes when a fine, low cross from the overlapping Scott Neville just eluded both Taggart and Keogh as they slid in.

Moments later, a superb through-ball from Nichols bisected the home defence, but Taggart’s effort was well saved by home goalkeeper Daniel Passarelli.

The Glory frontman was not to be denied for long, however, tapping in from close range after a deep Chris Harold cross had been headed back across the face of goal by Daniel Stynes.

And just after the half-hour mark, Taggart claimed his and the visitors’ second, racing on to a searching ball from Griffiths and rifling a shot past Passarelli from just inside the box.

Perth rarely managed to trouble a solid-looking Glory defence before the break, with the notable exception of a fierce effort from Elliot Tattersall which the alert Shane Lowry did well to head off the line.

The introduction of six substitutes on the hour-mark did nothing to disrupt the rhythm of the men in yellow, indeed it was one of those replacements, Luke Bodnar, who teed up Keogh for the third goal. The young defender cut in from the right and picked out the Irishman who calmly rounded the goalkeeper before finding the empty net.

And fellow-replacement Michael MacDougall almost made it 4-0 right on the final whistle, with only a last-ditch block keeping out his goalbound effort.
