Josh Risdon is hoping to be a long-term solution for the Socceroos at right back after being called up for his first national camp in Canberra.
Speaking to FFA TV, the 23-year-oldĀ Perth Glory starĀ revealed his call up came as a shock.Ā
āI got a message first of all when I was driving,ā said Risdon.Ā āI pulled over just to properly read it [the message].
āI was very excited at the time. It was a very proud moment for myself.ā
Fresh from playing in Saturday’s Westfield FFA Cup Final loss to Victory, Risdon is the only new face in the Socceroos latest 23-player squad that will face Kyrgyzstan and Bangladesh in FIFA World Cup qualifiers over the next week.
With numerous options being trialed in his right back position during Ange Postecoglouās reign, the defender declared heās ready to test himself on the international stage should he be handed a debut.
āItās a great opportunity for myself,ā said Risdon. āThereās a few people thatāve played at right-back recently.
āIāll just try do my best and try prove myself. Hopefully if I get a chance Iāll take it with two hands.ā
