Josh Risdon is hoping to be a long-term solution for the Socceroos at right back after being called up for his first national camp in Canberra.

Speaking to FFA TV, the 23-year-oldĀ Perth Glory starĀ revealed his call up came as a shock.Ā

ā€œI got a message first of all when I was driving,ā€ said Risdon.Ā ā€œI pulled over just to properly read it [the message].

ā€œI was very excited at the time. It was a very proud moment for myself.ā€

Fresh from playing in Saturday’s Westfield FFA Cup Final loss to Victory, Risdon is the only new face in the Socceroos latest 23-player squad that will face Kyrgyzstan and Bangladesh in FIFA World Cup qualifiers over the next week.

With numerous options being trialed in his right back position during Ange Postecoglouā€™s reign, the defender declared heā€™s ready to test himself on the international stage should he be handed a debut.

ā€œItā€™s a great opportunity for myself,ā€ said Risdon. ā€œThereā€™s a few people thatā€™ve played at right-back recently.

ā€œIā€™ll just try do my best and try prove myself. Hopefully if I get a chance Iā€™ll take it with two hands.ā€
