Shane Smeltz will miss Perth Glory-s next two pre-season games because of international commitments with the New Zealand national team.

Smeltz, left Perth today to play in two world cup qualifiers for the All Whites (against New Caledonia and Solomon Islands) meaning he-ll miss tomorrow night-s game against Inglewood United as well as next week-s game against the WA State team.

But the star striker will be available for the crucial hit-outs in Melbourne against the Victory and Heart.

Brandon O-Neill and Jesse Makarounas will also miss tomorrow night-s game at Intiga Stadium because the duo are away with the Qantas Young Socceroos.

With season 8 of the Hyundai A-League fast approaching, Perth Glory coach Ian Ferguson said he-ll aim to give his players as much game time as possible.

“The main emphasis now is to work on retaining the ball and playing a high-tempo, Ferguson said.

“I-ve been delighted with the pre-season so far.

“We-ve had some good hit-outs both home and in South Africa and with five weeks to go the players have worked hard.”
