Perth ready to roar in Brisbane

Fresh from a week off due to the bye, Perth Glory women will be brimming with confidence as they take on inaugural Westfield W-League champions Brisbane Roar tomorrow afternoon at Perry Park.

Fresh from a week off due to the bye, Perth Glory will be brimming with confidence as they take on inaugural Westfield W-League champions Brisbane Roar tomorrow afternoon at Perry Park.

The last time the Glory played was a fortnight ago when they thumped Adelaide United 4-0 at nib Stadium.

It has already been a massive week for Perth as leading goal scorer Kate Gill claimed the prestigious AFC Women-s Player of the Year crown on Wednesday night in Kuala Lumpur.

Now the Glory faces a huge test against Brisbane, whose last outing was also a 4-0 rout, against Newcastle Jets.

It will also be the first time that former Glory striker Lisa De Vanna comes up against her old side.

Sadie Lawrence returns for Perth after missing the Adelaide match and will replace Stacey Learmont, while Brisbane has brought in Alisha Foote, Rebekah Stott, Erika Elze and Lauren Colthorpe into an extended squad.

Perth Glory coach John Gibson says his side can-t wait to take on a one of the title favourites.

“Looking forward to seeing where we sit and seeing how we match up against one of the top sides,” he said.

“They did really well against Newcastle last week and no doubt they-ll be looking to make their home ground a fortress for them.

“The aim for us as per normal is a solid performance, we-ve had a good two weeks off and we-re really looking forward to the challenge ahead of us.”

Kick-off against Brisbane is 4.00pm local time.
