Perth happy but not content

Perth Glory players have allowed themselves little time to enjoy a first up win with the focus quickly turning to the visit of Melbourne Victory in a Friday night blockbuster at ME Bank Stadium.

Experienced defender Andy Todd said it-s was a nice feeling to secure three points in front of the club-s home fans but vowed that no one would be taking anything for granted as they prepared for a clash with the reigning Champions.

“We can-t just rest on our laurels now, it is one victory, we want to get that winning taste back in our mouth again on Friday evening,” Todd said.

“I think the result has settled us down a little bit more, especially at home. We-ve got a start now and it-s another quick game coming up on Friday against Melbourne and it-ll be a big challenge.”

Todd has been outstanding in the heart of Glory-s defence and instrumental in helping stem the flow of goals that caused so many problems last season. Perth has conceded just three goals in the opening three rounds with only one of those coming from open play.

“It-s a team game, everyone has a duty to defend and everyone has a duty to attack so it is an all in effort and that is pleasing.”

The former Blackburn Rovers Captain has combined well with Socceroo Chris Coyne and is thoroughly enjoying his football since making the move to Australia this year.

“It has been great so far, off field I couldn-t have asked for anything better. Obviously it was disappointing not to get anything out of the first two matches but yesterday was a good result at home and hopefully it can kick start us now.”

Glory will have just a five day turnaround before they tackle Melbourne although they will be aided by back to back home matches and no injuries from the 2-0 win against the Jets.

“It won-t be a problem. We are doing a recovery session today and I think its good having a quick game coming up again after a victory,” said Todd.
