Westfield W-League fixtures released today

This year the stage is set for an exciting Westfield W-League 2015/16 season for Perth Glory Women as they aim to go one step further on the back of a historic 2014.

The team will kick-off its campaign on October 17, against rivals Melbourne Victory before returning home to play back-to-back games at Ashfield Reserve against Newcastle Jets and Melbourne City (see below 15/16 fixtures).

The October 31 clash against City is expected to be a fiery encounter after former Glory girl Lisa De Vanna signed with the glamour club which has entered the competition for the first time.

On the back of winning the NPL WA U-20 championship, head coach Bobby Despotovski said his focus now turns to his talented women’s team which has secured the signatures of Matilda stars, Sam Kerr, Mackenzie Arnold, Kim Carroll and Caitlin Foord. “The fixtures are the same for everybody and we are going to prepare the best way we can to succeed to get into the top four” he said. “After the girls came desperately short last year we want to do something and go one step further and win the championship” he added.

Despotovski said while winning the championship with the U-20s NPL team was a positive and historic achievement for the club, he was adamant he would not rest on his laurels when it came to the W-League season. “My job is to sell the story to the girls. First we need to make the top four and get into the play-offs and then winning from there” he said. The full Perth Glory Women’s squad will be unveiled at the club’s season launch later this month.
