Perth Glory Football Club would like to applaud the Liberal Party of WA on its pre-election pledge of 37-million dollars for a new State Football Centre at Ashfield Reserve.
The Premier Colin Barnett made the announcement today ahead of the March 11 State Election.
Glory CEO Peter Filopoulos said the funding commitment was long overdue for what is the most participated sport in the nation.
“I’d like to congratulate the Premier Colin Barnett and the Liberal Party of WA on this commitment”.
“We have worked alongside Football West to build a strong business case to enable the sport to grow and foster for many decades to come in WA” he said.
The centre, at Ashfield Reserve on Guildford Road, will include a boutique grandstand to stage events for up to 4,000 spectators, including 700 permanent seats.
It would also have two floodlit playing fields, at least one of which would be synthetic turf, and player amenities including change rooms, a gymnasium and a sport science component to support junior and high performance development programs and A-League training.
Glory has been in talks with Football West, where the facilities would be shared by the Hyundai A-League team for training and administration purposes.
“I would also encourage the State Opposition and Mark McGowan to support this crucial piece of infrastructure for WA football, particularly as it’s been earmarked for a Labor seat” Filopoulos added.
