Perth Glory FC-s Summer Development Programme

In 2011/2012 Perth Glory FC will be launching its Summer Development Programme (SDP) for under 8s and under 9s. The SDP is open to players born between 2002 and 2004 and we will have two squads located north and south of the river.

This community initiative requires a registration fee and will be designed to allow junior footballers the opportunity to play and train within a professional football club-s environment during the A League season. The players would be involved from between October -11 – March -12 and be able to return to their club whenever their team commences training.

During the Football West season our Senior Coaches and Community Officers will continue to monitor the players.

Head Coach Ian Ferguson commented:
“Perth Glory beginning to work with under 8s and under 9s during our season is a huge step forward in developing our community programme. I believe that for the grassroots football in Western Australia to develop to its potential Perth Glory needs to identify talented players as early as possible that can hopefully develop into first team players at 17 or 18 years of age. Although my main focus is our senior team, I-m looking forward to watching the junior footballers at the Summer Development Programme.”

Trials will not be held; Perth Glory-s Senior and Community Coaches as well as the scouting network will be attending junior games and inviting players into the programme based on Perth Glory-s selection criteria. Players can also be selected based on performances at the Glorious Fourz, Soccer Schools and Let-s Play Fourz programmes.

Community and Development Manager Callum Salmon said:

“Glory in the Community are initiating a number of new community programmes in season ‘11/12 aimed at developing and growing grassroots football in Western Australia. The Summer Development Programme has been organised primarily as a vehicle for talented junior footballers to play and train in a professional environment during the A League season.”
“We will continue to monitor the players during the Football West season and the ultimate aim is for a junior or a number of juniors to one day pull on the Perth Glory shirt having been involved with the club since 8 years of age. We will be indentifying players based on their technique, ability, attitude and mobility.”

Players can also be recommended via their club coach and our staff will endeavour to watch the player in question. After identification the club will be notified and the player-s parents will be presented with the details of how to register for the Summer Development Programme.
