Perth Glory FC would like to thank its members, supporters and fans who kindly donated to the Lord Mayor’s Distress Relief Fund to help the victims of the devastating Waroona and Yarloop bushfires at the weekend.
The club used its match against Melbourne City at nib Stadium on January 16, to help support the people of the region.
The club pledged $1 from every ticket sold would be donated to the LMDRF.
On Match Day volunteers rattled tins around the ground to collect donations from supporters as they made their way into the stadium.
The club can confirm it raised a total of five-thousand dollars ($5000) to donate to the cause.
“Every little bit helps, and we’re happy to have played a small part in what has been a terrifying ordeal for those people in our south-west” said club CEO, Peter Filopoulos.
“The contribution from the tickets sold was $2,409.00, the donations from the tins amounted to $1,580.40 and the club topped up with $1,010.60 to round the total figure to $5000” he said.
Filopoulos said the club planned to donate more money to the appeal, by fundraising at some upcoming club events.
Tickets have also been offered to local clubs throughout the region to some upcoming home matches.
Defender Josh Risdon, who with goalkeeper Jerrad Tyson helped out at the Channel 9 Bushfire Appeal on Wednesday night, said the devastation had struck a personal chord with him.
“Being from Bunbury it’s close to home for me. As a youngster I’ve travelled up and down the Forrest Highway, passing through Waroona and Yarloop, and to see the pictures of the devastation makes me sad. I’m glad the club was able to chip in any possible way” he said.
“My heart goes out to the people of Waroona, Yarloop and Harvey and I hope everyone can rebuild their lives soon”.
