Must-win for Glory Women in Grand Final rematch

With three rounds to go in the W-League season, Perth Glory Women have an important match ahead of them on Saturday, entering the round sitting four points back of a finals berth.

The team has hit a bit of a rough patch of form in recent weeks with just one point in their last four matches. Despite the recent results, star midfielder Vanessa DiBernardo believes there is more to come from the team.

“We’re trying to break the barrier of putting a complete game together. We have had very good halves, but we are looking for a complete game performance.”

The last time out, the team put together a great first half against Melbourne City, but conceded four goals in the second half. That match was on December 20, and with an extra week of work between matches, DiBernardo thinks the team will be more ready to compete for the full 90 minutes against Canberra.

“The bye week is definitely beneficial. It gave us some time to get away, rejuvenate and work on some things in training.”

With just one point earned in four home matches this season, the team is also motivated to put together a complete game in front of their home crowd.

“These last few games are really important for us. We have put ourselves in a position where every game matters, and a win this weekend is key to putting us in a better position for a finals opportunity,” said DiBernardo.

“We are looking to put together a solid performance. It helps that we don’t have to travel and we are playing in front of our home crowd. Hopefully we can give our fans a good game!”

The match is set to kick-off at 4pm on Saturday at Ashfield Reserve.
