Matildas back for Glory

Matildas stars Collette McCallum and Lisa De Vanna have agreed to pull on the purple of the Perth Glory Women for a second consecutive season after successful stints at their US based clubs.

Matildas stars Collette McCallum and Lisa De Vanna have agreed to pull on the purple of the Perth Glory Women for a second consecutive season after successful stints at their US based clubs.

And in another coup for the Glory, American and Washington Freedom defender Alex Singer has also agreed to terms for season two of the Westfield W-League.

McCallum was part of the Sky Blues squad which won the inaugural Women-s Professional Soccer league in the US in August, when her team defeated Los Angeles Sol 1-0 in the final. McCallum made 20 appearances for the Blues and was an instrumental part of the championship winning team.

De Vanna represented the Washington Freedom and amassed six goals in 20 appearances on the way to the finals series but her team was knocked out by McCallum-s Sky Blues (2-1) but did get on the scoresheet.

Joining De Vanna from the Freedom will be 21 year old defender Alex Singer who will add to the Glory-s defensive stocks, as the team looks to clinch its first finals appearance.

Glory officials are rushing to have the necessary paperwork completed with the FFA to allow all three to play in this weekend-s huge opening match against Melbourne Victory at Etihad Stadium.

“Collette and Lisa, as two of the best players in the world, were a big priority for us in finalising our squad, so we are delighted that they have agreed to come back to Perth and hopefully we can get them straight into the squad for the match against Melbourne this Saturday” said Glory Women head coach John Gibson.

“Alex Singer is another great signing; she is very athletic, plays anywhere in the backline and comes highly recommended by Lisa and her coach at the Freedom.

“She only arrives in Perth on Friday and will travel with the squad but whether she plays will depend on her international clearance and how she pulls up after the long flights.

“The depth we have now in the squad is excellent, and getting the right sort of balance with the squad was a major priority for us.”

Gibson has also added inaugural squad members Katarina Jukic and Ciara Conway along with 15 year old debutante ‘keeper Zoe Palandri which brings the current player roster to 18.
