Match Preview – Top-of-the-league at stake in Victory clash

Thumbnail

All eyes in the Westfield W-League will be turned to Victoria on Friday afternoon when Perth Glory travel to face Melbourne Victory.

Both sides sit equal on points on the ladder, narrowly behind first-placed Brisbane Roar with an opportunity to claim top spot.

Glory travel to Victoria on a high after Sam Kerr’s aerial double saw the West Australians claim a 2-1 win over a strong Sydney FC side. Despotovski’s side remain the only one undefeated in the league after 7 matches, winning three and drawing four games, with the lethal Kerr netting 8 goals in 6 matches.

Meanwhile, the Victorians will be looking to revive their stunning early season form after two thrilling losses to Brisbane Roar and Adelaide United in the week leading up to Christmas. Particularly, Glory will be wary of the mercurial Natasha Dowie; the ex-Liverpool striker has bagged six goals for the Navy Blue this season.

Glory were boosted by the return of talented youngster Jacynta Galabadaarachchi last week, with only Isabella Foletta out for the Victory clash with muscle soreness. Victory’s entire squad is available to take the field on Friday.

With both teams possessing brilliant attacking prowess in the front third, it’s set to be an exhilarating match at AAMI Park. Tune in on SBS Viceland or Fox Sports Football to take in the must-see Westfield W-League clash this Friday.
