Tony Popovic is looking for a more complete performance from his charges in Saturday’s Round 5 meeting with Newcastle Jets at McDonald Jones Stadium (kick- off at 2pm WST).

Glory were unable to overturn a one-goal half-time deficit against Central Coast Mariners last time out despite a dominant second-half performance, but the Head Coach is confident that his side will react well this weekend.

“We need to try and put the package together in defence and attack,” he said.

“We just need to try and complete the game and get that 90 minutes in terms of a performance that will give us a better chance of getting a result when things aren’t quite going for us on the day.

“We probably have to be more tactically disciplined so we can ride out those periods when we’re not at our best. Those periods happen to every team.”

Glory will be up against a Jets side still searching for its first win of the campaign and Popovic is expecting Ernie Merrick’s men to come out all guns blazing.

“They are at home,” he said, “so I’m sure there’ll be a lot of desperation involved with their team.

“I think we’ll see a very aggressive start from Newcastle.

“We’re expecting a tough encounter, which you always get in Newcastle.

“They are a team that always looks dangerous going forward, even though they haven’t got the results that they want so far.

“We have to be aware of that, but also know that we can cause problems to any team.”

In terms of early team news, Popovic confirmed that defender Osama Malik will be out for two to three weeks after picking up a hamstring injury against the Mariners, while Kristian Popovic remains away on international duty with the Young Socceroos.

The Jets, meanwhile, will again be without long-term absentees Wes Hoolahan and Kaine Sheppard.
