Perth Glory FC is delighted to announce it has boosted its player stocks with the signing of WA born defender Shane Lowry for the next two and a half seasons.

The ECU Joondalup product returns to Perth and is set to take part in the Hyundai A-League until at least the end of the 2017/18 season.

Lowry has arrived home after spending the past 11 years in England with stints at Aston Villa, Leeds United, Sheffield United, Millwall and most recently Birmingham City. He also appeared in two Europa League matches.

“Shane is a quality defender and we know what he can do after he trained with us for several weeks in the pre-season last year” said Glory Coach Kenny Lowe.

“He’s another WA boy who has come home. We hope he and Adam (Taggart) are two of many local boys who are keen to come home as part of our long term strategy” he added.

Lowry said, after more than a decade in the UK and away from his family, it was time for a new adventure in his home town.

“I’ve really enjoyed my time in England and it’s been pivotal in shaping my football. The time was right to come to Perth and play with Glory, which has been a goal of mine in more recent years”.

“As a Perth boy I’m keen to do my bit and steer the club to its first A-League championship, but more importantly help the team make the finals this current season”.

After representing the Republic of Ireland at U-17 & U-21 levels, Lowry opted to pursue a senior international career with Australia and was part of the 30-man preliminary squad at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

The 26-year-old is one of 12 West Australian born or raised players in the current Glory squad.

Lowry will join the team for training on Thursday morning and will be available for selection for this Saturday’s match against Melbourne Victory at nib Stadium.

Kick-off is at 6.40pm and you can purchase tickets HERE
