Glory’s PS4 NPL WA side will be looking to force their way back into the winners’ circle on Saturday when they welcome Subiaco to Ashfield Reserve.
John Gibson’s side were pipped at the post last time out, eventually losing 3-2 to high-flying Bayswater City having led 2-0 at half time.
And midfielder Jack Leech admitted that the nature of the defeat was tough to take.
“It was a great first-half performance from us,” he said.
“I thought we played some great football and capitalised on our chances which has been something we have been struggling to do this season, so it was a great effort and great to see.
“But the second-half performance was not so good. We let the lead slip and lacked the desire to finish the game off and as a result, were left very disappointed. It was a game we should have followed through with and won the three points.”
In the wake of that setback, Leech, who has been outstanding in the middle of the park this season, feels that this weekend’s Subiaco clash has assumed an even greater importance.
“It’s a massive game,” he said. “We will be fully focused and ready for the challenge like we are every week and if we can repeat last week’s first-half performance but execute it for the full 90 minutes this time, I am very confident we will be able to take three vital points.”
Gibson, meanwhile, is calling upon his young charges to show greater faith in themselves as they head into the final three games of the regular season.
“Straight after the game we always do a quick de-brief,” he said, “and last week we spoke at length about not being scared to win and about having self-belief and confidence because they are not getting the rewards that their performances deserve. They need to continue to execute the details and processes more consistently.
“We were all really disappointed to have let the game slip, but it’s another huge and tough lesson for this young group and they will be looking to put it right on Saturday. The great thing is, we are being seriously competitive in a tough competition and that has been one of our goals for the season.”
Subiaco also lost last weekend, going down 3-1 to title contenders Perth SC at Rosalie Park.
But Gibson has been impressed by Ian McMurray’s side over the course of this year’s campaign.
“They have been the big improvers this season,” he said, “and will be another challenge for us, but as normal, it’s all about what we do. And if we get it right, I’m confident we can get the right result.”
The first-team game kicks off at 3pm, with the Under-18s getting things underway at 11am and the Under-20s in action at 1pm.
