The kind of test we wanted – Lowe

Head Coach Kenny Lowe was quick to take the positives from Wednesday night’s pre-season opener against Inglewood United.

Goals from Kenny Keogh, Alex Salmon and Chok Dau secured a 3-1 win for the PS4NPLWA leaders, with youngster Jacob Italiano replying for the visitors right at the death in what proved to be exactly the kind of competitive contest Lowe was hoping for.

“It was a good hit-out against a very good Inglewood side that are top of the table,” he said, “and it was great to get 45 minutes into the players that we had out there.

“We didn’t pick up any injuries, which is another positive and we’ll now look to get some game time into the players that didn’t play when we take on Perth SC next week.

“The focus for us at the moment is getting that game time into our players so that we hit the ground running when we play Heidelberg in the Westfield FFA Cup.”

Off-season signings Scott Neville, Mitch Nichols and Jacob Poscoliero all started for Glory before Lowe opted to make ten outfield changes at half time.

And having introduced what was effectively the club’s PS4NPLWA team for the second 45 minutes, he was pleased with the way the youngsters acquitted themselves against a more experienced and in-form home side.

“Callum Timmins looked really good and the young AIS lad, Jacob Italiano, was also impressive,” he said.

“We had three 15-year-olds out there in the second half and they performed really well.

“I’d also like to thank our members and fans who came out to support the lads on what wasn’t a great night weather-wise. Their backing was much appreciated.”

Glory return to action on Tuesday 25 July when they take on Perth SC at Dorrien Gardens.

Kick off time is 7pm.
