Irish striker Andy Keogh is thrilled to have opened his Hyundai A-League season with a perfect hat-trick against championship favourites Melbourne City last week but the Glory number 9 is well aware there’s a long season ahead.
“It was good to get on the scoresheet,” said the forward.
“A good team performance and always nice to get a couple and get off the mark for the season.”
The 30-year old was in superb form against the glamourous Victorians but understands that it’s too early for Perth to get ahead of itself.
“It’s a good game to test ourselves in against some very good players.”
“It’s only Round 3. There’s a long way to go but we gave a good account of ourselves and if we can keep on our form the way we were the other night, we’ll go okay.”
The ex-Wolverhampton Wolves goal threat added that the Western Australians still have aspects of their game to work on despite the massive triumph against their inter-state rivals.
“There’s always room for improvement. We can improve on scoring more. We can improve on conceding less. That’s the nature of the game but as long as we are picking up points, we’ll worry about that on the training ground.”
After some intriguing results in the opening few rounds of the A-League, Keogh knows that Glory can’t afford to take any side lightly.
“I think anyone can beat anyone, anywhere in the A league in general. I think we just need to be more consistent. Make sure our away form is on point because we know at home we can be devastating and we go from there.”
Following Kenny Lowe’s touchline suspension after Friday night’s emotional rollercoaster, the Vice-Captain threw his support behind the A-League Manager of the Round.
“These things happen in football. Passion runs high, things get said and the gaffer accepts his punishment and we move on.”
“He gives everything on the training pitch and on game day.”
The seasoned striker echoed the coach’s sentiments when quizzed whether Glory was too physical.
“It’s a physical game. We look to impose ourselves on teams, we look to play good football and we look to be stronger than our opponent.”
“That’s the way we play. We’re a physical team that’s fit but also, I think we are even better this season in possession and attacking wise so we’re a dangerous outfit” he added.
Perth’s next game is away to Brisbane Roar at Suncorp Stadium on Sunday the 30th October.
The game kicks-off at 2pm WST.
