The bright star of Perth Glory FC defender Josh Risdon continues to shine after being included in the 23-man Socceroos squad for the upcoming 2018 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers against Tajikistan and Jordan.

The Adelaide and Sydney fixtures will take place on March 24 and 29.

Risdon’s inclusion comes on the back of his Socceroos debut in November against Bangladesh where he set up the second goal for Australian striker Tim Cahill.

The 23-year old has gone from strength to strength this season after becoming only the seventh player to notch up 100 Hyundai A-League games for the club; Risdon is now the fourth most capped player to have worn the Glory shirt in A-League history.

“It’s very exciting and an honour to have been selected by Ange (Postecoglou). It was a big aim of mine to make camp after last years’ experience so I am buzzing to be part of that group once again” Risdon said.

Last week he was crowned the South Western Times Sports Star of the Year in his home-town of Bunbury and on Monday night, steered the team to an important 2-0 win over the Newcastle Jets and into the top-six, after wearing the captain’s armband for the ninth time this season.

Risdon is expected to lead the team out onto nib Stadium this Saturday night when Glory hosts the Central Coast Mariners.
