The initial first team game was postponed due to the extremely hot temperatures in the Perth metro area on the day, and John Gibson’s side will be looking for back-to-back wins after a 3-2 win at Cockburn last week.
Gibson said the win was well-deserved, but they had a few nervous moments late in the game. “We are coming off a super win at Cockburn City last week, a game we dominated for large periods and led 3-0,” he said.
“But we switched off late and let them back in the game, and we have to grow and learn you can’t do that at any level of football or you will be punished.
“It was another consistent performance from the group, who have been great all season and we continue to evolve as a team, and we are looking for another strong performance against Joondalup on Saturday.”
Glory youngster Bayley Brown-Montgomery said they need to learn from the fade out last week. “We were good for 95% of the game, and we are now starting to find the back of the net, so to score three really put us in a good position,” he said.
“But late in the game we seemed to take our foot off the pedal and let them score two goals, and it showed that in the NPL you can never to be comfortable.”
The striker scored his first NPL goal for the club in round 12, and he said all the players’ hard work is paying off.
“Yes scoring was a good feeling for me, especially it being against my former club, and I was able to have a hand in our three goals last week which was pleasing,” he said.
“We are all working extremely hard to improve our game, and ever since I arrived at the club the lads have been great. It’s very demanding at training and even light sessions before the game you can’t slack off one bit.”
The striker will be celebrating his 19th birthday on Saturday, and he hopes to celebrate with a win against Joondalup United. “They are a good side, and they have had some massive results against good sides this season,” he said.
“But I feel if keep the ball and make them work for it, like we have in recent weeks, we can get the job done and have back-to-back wins.”
Richard Garcia’s under 20’s are also in league action on Saturday, when they meet Joondalup United at 1 pm, but Callum Salmon’s under 18’s are in State League Cup action when they meet Inglewood United in the quarter-finals at Wanneroo Reserve at 10 am.
