It’s all in the Mind: Lowe

When Kenny Lowe officially took over the coaching reins at Perth Glory FC in the off season he had one aim.

“Score more goals, win more away games” he declared.

After seven rounds into season 10 of the Hyundai A-League the boys from the West sit at the top of the ladder, having won six out of seven matches. The best start for the club in A-League history.

If you ask Lowe why Perth Glory FC has turned its season around, his answer is simple.

“Mindset…it’s all about the mindset”.

The team has won five out of six Hyundai A-League and FFA Cup games on the road. It’s only blemish a 2-0 win in round three against Adelaide in October at Coopers Stadium.

Lowe says it comes down to the player’s sense of self-belief.

“You can’t play it down all the time, you’ve got take some credit for the things. Touch wood we’re doing those things” he said.

They’ve (the players) made a conscious decision to focus on certain things and go about their business a certain way and credit to them”.

The “things” Lowe refers to are the some of the basic football “do’s” and “dont’s”.

“Concentrate on your jobs with the ball, without the ball; when the ball is in transition” he explains.

As far as mindset is concerned the team will be further tested as it prepares for two tough games on the road.

Glory travels to Queensland this week to face last year’s Hyundai A-League champions, Brisbane Roar.

Glory beat Brisbane in round two at nib Stadium 3-2, thanks to an Andy Keogh hat-trick.

The Roar this week sacked its championship winning coach Mike Mulvey after a string of ordinary results but Lowe has warned Brisbane will be tough to play against.

“They still play great football, it’s just they haven’t finished on their opportunities. They’ve always been very dangerous against us, every game I’ve watched they’ve been in the game and to a certain extent controlled the game”.

Perth Glory FC will take on Brisbane on Saturday at Suncorp Stadium. Kick-off is at 2 p.m. WST.

Glory will then travel to Sydney to prepare for the big clash against Sydney FC on Thursday December 4 at Allianz Stadium.

Glory returns to nib Stadium to take on the Newcastle Jets on December 12.
