The 2014/15 season for Perth Glory FC winger Youssouf Hersi has come to an early end after the 32-year old winger sustained an injury to his right hamstring during the round eight clash against Brisbane Roar at Suncorp Stadium last week.

Scans have revealed a tear to the Ethiopian-Dutchman’s hamstring and as a result, Hersi will undergo surgery in Perth later this week and is not expected to take any further part in season 10 of the Hyundai A-League.

Perth Glory FC Chief Executive Jason Brewer said the club was focused on helping Hersi make a full recovery as quickly as possible.

“We’re disappointed to lose the services of such a valuable player from our line-up early on in the season. The club is now working with Youssouf to ensure the road to recovery for him, is effective and smooth as possible and that he receives all the support required” he said.

Hersi, who is also an A-League All Star said he too was bitterly disappointed his season had come to an end.

“I would like to thank my teammates, the club and fans for all their ongoing support and well wishes I have received over the past week. I would like to wish the boys all the best for the rest of the season and most importantly good luck in the FFA Cup final against Adelaide in just over a week” Hersi said.

Hyundai A-League leaders, Perth Glory FC face Newcastle Jets at nib Stadium on Friday December 12.
