Speaking to the media ahead of the HBF Park clash, the Uruguayan frontman was in typically upbeat mood and very clear in terms of his aims for the forthcoming campaign.

“I’m here to win,” he said. “This is why I’m in Perth; that mentality.

“All the fans expect the same season [as last year] or better and this is the challenge we have. We are ready for that challenge.

“I like to score goals and I want to get that feeling again, but I want to win the Premiership and the Grand Final. This is what I have in my mind right now.”

The man nicknamed ‘El Tuna’ (Prickly Pear) was also keen to look forward rather than reflect upon the acrimonious end to his spell at previous club Melbourne City.

“I don’t need to prove anything,” he said.

“I just need to find a way to enjoy again my football and help the team.

“Everyone has given me a warm welcome and now it’s time to give something back to all the coaches and the players.”

And Fornaroli went on to confirm that he is especially looking forward to linking up with last season’s Alex Tobin Award winner, Diego Castro.

“For me it’s a plus [playing with Castro],” he said.

“Always when you play around good players, they make the work easier and I hope we can make a good combination, score goals, work for the team and help the team get points.”
