It was Play Football Round in the Hyundai A-League – and the game we love so much didn’t disappoint with goals and drama across the weekend. Here’s a recap of what happened.
Brisbane Roar 0-0 Sydney FC
Both goalkeepers Theo and Vukovic put on a clinic at Suncorp Stadium on Friday night as neither side was able to find the back of the net in what was a highly entertaining affair. Sydney FC’s undefeated season continues.
Wellington Phoenix 1-3 Western Sydney Wanderers
Phoenix took hosting rights to New Plymouth but it was the Wanderers that looked more at home at Yarrow Stadium with a Brendon Santalab double helping the visitors climb back into the top six.
Melbourne Victory 2-1 Melbourne City
Victory came from behind to beat their cross-town rivals at Etihad Stadium in a typical derby. Two late goals brought City undone and there was plenty of controversy to boot.
Perth Glory 3-2 Newcastle Jets
Glory consolidated their place inside the top six after seeing off a plucky Jets outfit at nib Stadium. A Diego Castro brace and Adam Taggart’s eighth of the season were enough to secure all three points.
Central Coast Mariners 2-1 Adelaide United
The Mariners kept alive their finals hopes with a deserved 2-1 win over the Reds in Canberra. A sublime Fabio Ferreira strike and a first-ever A-League goal to Kwabena Appiah seeing Paul Okon's team home.
