Home away from home

Perth Glory coach Dave Mitchell has challenged his players to take the positive momentum built at home onto the road as they prepare for a vital clash with Queensland Roar at Suncorp Stadium on Sunday.

While Perth has yet to secure a point away from Members Equity Stadium this season, Queensland too will be hoping for a change in fortune after failing to register a win at their home ground in 2008/09.

“We have to win some games on the road if we-re to get to where we want this season,” said Mitchell.

“We-ve shown we have got the quality to win matches and with Queensland not having won on their home turf yet it-ll be a situation where both teams desperately want the three points and make for an interesting contest.

“Our boys are shaping up really well and they-re up for the challenge,” Mitchell said.

The Glory will again have to make do without playmaker Amaral who hasn-t been risked as he recovers from a knee strain but the side has been bolstered with the inclusion of defender David Tarka and former Celtic midfielder Marc Anthony who has joined Perth on a short term injury replacement contract.

Queensland-s inspirational skipper Craig Moore has been ruled out however a host of young internationals return for the Roar.

Perth-s last visit to Suncorp ended in a thrilling 3-3 draw last season with Jamie Coyne scoring the equaliser in the third minute of added time.

“Our record away from home is probably a reflection of some inconsistency in the early stages of this season however we-ve found that consistency now and we don-t have any fear going into opposition territory,” Coyne said.

“They-ve got a strong line-up and will no doubt want to get rid of the hoodoo they have at Suncorp but we-ll be going out to make sure the monkey on their back becomes a gorilla,” added Coyne.
