Gold Coast Tour Diary – Day One

Day One

Well, technically Monday was Day One, but as that only featured a straightforward flight to Brisbane, a relatively traffic-free transfer to the hotel and Bruno Fornaroli and Jacob Tratt performing their squad initiation songs during dinner, we’ve taken the liberty of starting with Tuesday!

And it was straight into the hard work with a double session which saw the whole squad working together in the morning and then the defenders, midfielders and forwards splitting off into separate groups during the afternoon.

Despite several ominous rumbles of thunder, the rain that threatened never arrived and the final stage of training saw the groups come back together for a competitive, high-tempo game.

For a number of the players, a trip to the nearby Croatian Sports Centre followed where they conducted a junior coaching clinic.

On the two splendidly-appointed pitches at what is the home of NPL Queensland high-fliers Gold Coast Knights, dozens of youngsters showcased their impressive skills before an autograph and photo session rounded off a thoroughly enjoyable local community event.

In other news, Jake Brimmer and Dane Ingham are currently working on an acapella  duet version of ‘A Whole New World’ from the Aladdin movie, physio Chris Hutchinson has brushed off criticism of his decision to eat an entire plate of chicken breasts for lunch by claiming that he is ‘in a bulking phase’ and the one and only Brett Lambert has already trotted out one of his many infamous Gold Coast stories, this one featuring a night out, a Port Jackson shark and a swimming pool.

More from the GC tomorrow as the countdown to Friday’s opening Surf City Cup game against Brisbane Roar continues…
