Glory’s golden girl has world at her feet

With the notable exception of Neymar Jr, there aren’t many other footballers who are hotter news right now than our very own Sam Kerr.

Already in scintillating domestic form for her NWSL side Sky Blue FC, the 23-year-old somehow managed to take her game to another level altogether as the Westfield Matildas swept all before them en route to victory in the Tournament of Nations.

Kerr started each of the national team’s three games, the first of which yielded a maiden victory over the host nation, USA.

She then claimed a superb first-half hat-trick in a 4-2 win over Japan and added another goal along with three assists as Alen Stajcic’s side sealed their first piece of silverware since 2010 by demolishing Brazil 6-1 at the StubHub Center in Carson, California.

While the next World Cup is still two years away, the Matildas have emerged as genuine title contenders with their performances over the last week and Kerr and co will have a chance to further enhance those credentials when they take on Brazil again next month.

Newcastle and Penrith will play host to the two clashes with the South American side who ended Australia’s Olympic hopes in Rio last year.

And who would bet against Super Sam, our Westfield W-League skipper, starring again on home soil?
