Glory women to support Breast Cancer research against Sydney FC on Saturday.

Perth Glory Women will hold their fifth annual National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF) fundraiser match against Sydney FC this Saturday 17 November at nib Stadium.

A unique touch for the 2012 match will see Perth Glory play in a special commemorative pink and purple playing kit, which will be officially released later this week. An added feature of the game is that this match has been chosen by ABC television to be shown nationally later that day.

The match has been staged each Westfield W-League season since the mother of inaugural Glory player Danielle Calautti sadly passed away from her battle with breast cancer.

NBCF is the leading community-funded organisation in Australia raising money for research into the prevention and cure of breast cancer. Perth Glory Women has teamed up with NBCF to raise awareness of the importance of breast cancer research.

Carole Renouf, Chief Executive Officer of the National Breast Cancer Foundation, encourages fans to support the initiative to help bring NBCF closer to their goal of zero deaths from breast cancer by 2030.

“The money raised by Perth Glory Women will help fund research across every state and territory to improve the health and wellbeing of Australians affected by breast cancer,” she said.

Perth Glory Women Chief Executive Peter Hugg said: “Over the past five years this game in aid of the National Breast Cancer Foundation has grown in stature and given its place in the team-s history, has special meaning for the team and all women involved in our sport.”

“Over time the team has gone from pink ribbons to pink laces, and this season through the assistance of our kit supplier, Kelme, we have developed a great bright pink and purple strip that I am sure will be worn proudly by the players. In time, hopefully this particular shirt will grow in popularity and we will see more of them at Glory matches in the future.

“I encourage everyone to come down to nib Stadium this Saturday to support both the team but more importantly this very worthy cause. Given it will be broadcast on ABC, we want to show the rest of the nation the level of support for the team.”

Part proceeds from ticket and merchandise sales will all go towards NBCF. Volunteers will also be collecting donations at the venue, while Football West will also donate $500 for each Perth Glory Women goal scored.

Kick-off against Sydney FC will be at 11am.
