Glory coach Nicola Williams says the Perth based Westfield W-League side have set their sights on securing a finals berth in their inaugural season, with the quest beginning on Saturday against Sydney FC.
Glory coach Nicola Williams says the Perth based Westfield W-League side have set their sights on securing a finals berth in their inaugural season, with the quest beginning on Saturday against Sydney FC.
Williams has named an 18-player squad for the clash at Members Equity Stadium and is holding her cards close to her chest who will take the field in the historic match.
Skipper Tanya Oxtoby and vice captain Collette McCallum will provide the inspiration as Glory look to get their season off to a flying start but it will be a collective effort across the park from a talented group of players.
The Perth side will also be buoyed by the news that young guns Samantha Kerr, Marianna Tabain and Ella Mastrantonio have been selected in the Westfield Young Matildas squad for the upcoming AFC U-19 Women-s Championships to be held in Kuala Lumpur.
“We definitely have the talent, the key players, a strong leadership group and determination to be amongst the top teams,” Williams said on Friday.
“Our aim is to reach the top four finals in January, and that starts this weekend.”
“We will look to take all three points off Sydney, and get our campaign off to the best possible start,” she said.
Beating the Sky Blues will be no easy task with their ranks including Matildas’ veteran Heather Garriock and national team members Danielle Small and Sarah Walsh.
Perth Glory Women-s first match will be at Members Equity Stadium, Saturday 25th October with a 1.00pm (AWST) kick off. Gates open 12:30pm (AWST). Tickets will be available on the gate for $5, kids under 16 are free.
Perth Glory members will be able to access the match for free by showing their 2008/09 Glory membership card.
