Perth Glory is delighted to confirm that Tarek Elrich has signed for the club.

The versatile and experienced defender has inked a deal which runs until the end of the Hyundai A-League 2020/21 season.

Sydney-born Elrich is a familiar figure to Hyundai A-League fans having chalked up nearly 300 appearances in the competition, the bulk of which came during spells at Newcastle Jets and Adelaide United.

A Championship winner with the Jets in 2008, he also earned a Premiership medal with Western Sydney Wanderers before going on to help Adelaide United lift the FFA Cup (2014) and claim a Premiership-Championship double (2015-16).

The man with three Socceroos caps to his name worked under current Glory Head Coach Tony Popovic during the first of his two stints with Western Sydney and is looking forward to linking up with him again here in the West.

“Tony taught me a lot,” he said, “and this is a great time to work under him again.

“Perth Glory is a successful club with a rich history in both the NSL and A-League and I want to help the club to continue that success.

“I’ve had a taste of silverware in the past and want more.

“I know a lot of the boys in the squad, especially Liam Reddy who I’ve known half my life and that made the decision to move over a lot easier.”

Glory Football Director Jacob Burns, meanwhile, feels that Elrich will prove to be an excellent acquisition as the club looks to balance up the demands of competing in both the Hyundai A-League and AFC Champions League.

“Tarek is an athletic and gifted player who brings great experience and versatility,” he said.

“He can play anywhere across the back five and has a proven track record as a winner wherever he’s played during his career.

“His signing gives our stocks a major boost at what is a hugely important stage of the season and takes us to our full quota of players, thereby rounding out what has been a very successful January transfer window for the club.”
