Perth Glory is delighted to confirm the signing of central defender Darryl Lachman.

The Amsterdam-born 30-year-old, who has represented Curacao at international level, has put pen to paper on a two-year deal.

Lachman’s impressive football resume includes nearly 200 Eredivisie appearances for the likes of Groningen, PEC Zwolle and FC Twente, along with spells at English Championship club Sheffield Wednesday and most recently, Israeli Premier League side Hapoel Ra’anana.

A commanding figure at 1.89m in height, the former Ajax youth player helped PEC Zwolle win promotion to the Eredivisie and claim the KNVB Cup during the first of his two spells with the club, while his international debut for the Caribbean nation of Curacao came in March 2015.

He is now keen to add another successful chapter to his career with Glory.

“I’m delighted to be coming to Australia because I’ve heard a lot of great things about it,” he said.

“I just want us to win as many games as possible and my aim is to play for the title.

“I can’t wait to get started.”

Head Coach Richard Garcia, meanwhile, is confident that Lachman will prove to be an excellent addition to his squad.

“Darryl is a strong central defender who is very calm in possession and an excellent distributor of the ball,” he said.

“He’s very much a leader at the back who communicates and organises extremely well and also has a good turn of pace.

“There’s no doubt in my mind that he has all the qualities required to make a big impact for us this year and we’re delighted to have him on board.”

Those sentiments were echoed by Glory Chief Executive Officer, Tony Pignata.

“Signing a player with Darryl’s wealth of top-level European experience is further evidence of the club’s determination to continue its sustained success,” he said.

“With a strong core of players already on board and further high-quality signings to come, there is every reason for our Members and fans to feel excited about the season ahead.”
