Glory’s Hyundai A-League 2019/20 pre-season preparations are set to include an intensive training camp on the Gold Coast and participation in the inaugural Surf City Cup tournament.

The squad will be based at a state-of-the-art facility that has hosted numerous top club and international sides in recent years and the trip will also see Tony Popovic’s side take on A-League rivals Brisbane Roar and Newcastle Jets in two friendly hit-outs as part of the Surf City Cup.

Glory Football Director Jacob Burns feels that the camp and tournament games will prove invaluable in ensuring that the squad are ready to hit the ground running when the new season commences in October.

“It’s a fantastic opportunity to both train at one of the best facilities of its kind in Australia and play two games against high-quality opposition,” he said.

“Securing friendly games against other professional teams is a challenge for us as a club given our geographical position, so we are delighted to have the fixtures against Roar and the Jets in place as part of a tournament that I’m sure will capture the imagination of the local community on the Gold Coast.

“This trip will be a key component in our preparations for what promises to be a huge season for the club as we look to build upon last term’s Premiership success both domestically and in the Asian Champions League.”

Glory will face Brisbane first up on Friday 30 August (kick off at 6.30pm local time), with their second and final tournament game against Newcastle taking place on Tuesday 3 September, also at 6.30pm.

All the Surf City Cup games will take place at the Croatian Sports Centre in Carrara.
