The Perth Glory FC will now play its season opening match against Adelaide United at Coopers Stadium on Sunday 13 October. The rescheduled fixture follows notification from the FFA, who today announced the changes to Round 1 and 6 of the Hyundai League 2013/14 season fixtures.

The Head of Hyundai A-League, Damien de Bohun, explained the process behind the decision to switch the venue of the matches.

“We are very excited about the redevelopment of nib Stadium which positions Perth Glory-s home ground as one of the best football stadiums in the country, said de Bohun.

“Our desire has always been to unveil the redeveloped stadium with a big match.

“The history of the Hyundai A-League has shown that in Round 1 fans across Australia and New Zealand come out in droves to welcome football back.

“Knowing this, we scheduled the Round 1 Hyundai A-League match between Perth Glory and Adelaide United at nib Stadium in the hope that the venue would be ready in time to host this fixture.

“Unfortunately, in consultation with all parties, it is now clear that this cannot be guaranteed.

“As a result, we have decided to switch the Round 1 and Round 6 venues between these two clubs for Perth Glory and Adelaide United respectively.

“I would like to acknowledge the collegiate approach taken by both Adelaide United and Perth Glory in making this change,” concluded de Bohun.

Perth Glory CEO Jason Brewer has expressed his disappointment; however is looking forward to the first home game on Sunday 27 October against Melbourne Heart being a big crowd puller.

“It is extremely disappointing for our fans and the team that we will now have to play our first two games away from home,” Brewer said.

“The season opening at the newly redeveloped nib stadium would have been the perfect opportunity to showcase the new facilities, whilst providing the perfect platform for the WA Football community to see the exciting new team that Alistair Edwards and the coaching staff have assembled for the Hyundai A-League Season 2013/14.”

“We will be working with Allia, Football West and the community to and deliver an experience like never before as we look to kick start our season with a packed house,” concluded Brewer.
