Glory Is Ours

The 20th year anniversary celebrations for Perth Glory Football Club are heating up with the Hyundai A-League 16/17 squad virtually finalised with no fewer than 14-home grown players in the mix.

Glory’s line-up features the return of “El Maestro” Diego Castro, the reigning Johnny Warren medallist, current club MGP and recipient of five club awards.

His silky skills, vision and uncanny goal scoring ability are expected to leave a packed nib Stadium in awe and on the edge of its seats!

Socceroo Rhys Williams will make his debut for his home-town club after spending the past 11-years at Middlesbrough FC, while Perth raised Chris Herd will also bolster the line-up across the park, along with the thwarting power of Alex Grant, Dino Djulbic, Josh Risdon and Shane Lowry.

Adding even more excitement to the roster is the return of Hyundai A-League 2013/14 Golden Boot winner Adam Taggart.

The 23-year old finds his way back to Glory Land after two years in the UK and is expected to form a lethal partnership up front with Irish international and crowd favourite Andy Keogh.

Building for Glory

In between the posts is the evergreen Liam Reddy. The 34-year old father of three has made the move west, to take up his spot with his seventh Hyundai A-League club. Reddy has played in-excess of 230 games and has recorded an impressive 60 clean sheets.

The team contains a wealth of experience with veteran midfielder Richard Garcia, Southampton academy product Joseph Mills, former Celtic goalkeeper Nick Feely and free-kick specialist Nebojsa Marinkovic to complement the up-and-coming future stars in Jamal Reiners, Mitchell Oxborrow, Kosta Petratos, Jordan Thurtell and Brandon Wilson.

Add in stubborn defender Marc Warren and ex-Burnley youth prospect Aryn Williams, the side has great depth and competition for places will be tougher than ever, which can only mean that Glory is on the horizon.

The team will head off to the Philippines later this month for a solid hit-out which will include an international friendly against the national team and a host of other local matches.

Glory’s first game of the season kicks-off at nib Stadium on October 8 against the Central Coast Mariners.
