Glory look to rebound

Perth Glory coach Dave Mitchell says his team is ready to prove they are good enough for finals football despite Saturday’s poor result in Melbourne.

Perth Glory coach Dave Mitchell says his team is ready to prove they are good enough for finals football despite Saturday-s poor result in Melbourne.

The Glory-s 6-2 loss to Melbourne Victory was the club-s heaviest for the season but they-ve got the perfect chance to rebound, with a mid-week game away to Adelaide United.

“I spoke to the players and it was a bit of a slap in the face for us and probably what we needed.

“There are a lot of disappointed players and they are desperate to rectify it on Tuesday in Adelaide,” Mitchell said.

With five games to play in the home and away season, Perth are currently sixth on the A-League table, just one point ahead of both Central Coast and Brisbane.

“It-s a big game and Adelaide are also chasing their tails.

“It-s a game the boys are focused on and we want to make sure we get something from this game.”

In two games between Perth and Adelaide this season both teams have recorded 1-nil wins. The Reds were victorious in round one while Perth got the three points back in October.

“The thing about Adelaide is they are very hard to score against so you want to make sure you score first because if they score first they defend very soundly.”

After missing the clash against Melbourne, Steven McGarry has been added to Perth-s squad.

The 30 year old has been released from Scottish side Motherwell and the attacking midfielder is now keen to launch his A-League career.

“It-s good to have Steven in the team, he will add another dimension to our squad,” Mitchell said.

Perth will complete its tough schedule with another game on Friday night against Wellington at ME Bank Stadium. It will be the Glory-s third match in six days.
