Glory going global

We are excited to have expanded our Perth Glory community into Asia via a unique grassroots development partnership with The Liga 1MCC in Malaysia.

The league program caters for players of all abilities, ranging in age from junior boys and girls through to young adults.

It provides an opportunity for young people to learn and play football under the tutelage of skilled, progressive coaches and also to reach out to advocates of the game in order to elevate their standard to the highest level.

In addition, it offers elite pathways through to academy and professional teams and we hope that in the future, it will provide outstanding opportunities for quality professionals to become Perth Glory players.

The program is the brainchild of Dato Chan who honed his football expertise as co-owner of Cardiff City FC during the club’s time in the English Premier League.

The Liga 1MCC football programs uniquely support grassroots football in the region by offering a comprehensive development pathway, while another major strength of 1MCC is its community development focus.

With a particular emphasis placed upon the inclusion of those with disabilities, programs are in place which support educational development with learning activities and workshops.

The Liga 1MCC is therefore changing the face of grassroots football development in Malaysia and feeding into its own semi-professional club.

Far more just than a football development pathway, it supports communities that understand its objectives and those communities have become intensely loyal to the 1MCC brand.

To date, more than 35,000 players have taken part in The Liga 1MCC youth leagues and many have graduated to academy level through Invictus FC before going on to secure professional contracts at the highest level in Malaysia and beyond.

Perth Glory views its partnership with 1MCC as a great opportunity to expand our own profile and supporter-base in Asia and to work with a highly-reputable organisation that shares our core values, supports families, embraces diversity, cares for local communities and champions inclusivity.

Our collaboration with 1MCC will see some exciting events taking place in the future, notably the exchange of professional ideas, philosophies and technical knowledge.

This partnership is also consistent with our Asian strategy whereby we collaborate and explore opportunities in player development and talent identification and at the same time, link in with the other global clubs associated with 1MCC.

We are the first Australian club to join 14 others from around the globe in this endeavour. Other clubs partnered with 1MCC include Chievo Verona, Wolverhampton Wanderers, West Ham United, Sampdoria, Torres, Sheffield Wednesday, Portland Timbers, Glasgow Rangers, FC Utrecht and Charlton Athletic.
