Glorious Fourz is back and will be bigger and better than ever!

The Glorious Fourz or G4Z is the Perth Glory FC-s small sided games initiative that is designed for boys and girls from the ages of 6 – 12 years. A team of 4 or 5 young players participate in 8-10 minute “mini games” that encourages player improvement over team result. The event lasts for approximately 1 hour per group, creating a fast-paced learning environment which is also a lot of fun.

The G4Z initiative has run successfully throughout the metropolitan and regional areas receiving great support and enjoying substantial participation. In just a year over 1000 players in the 6 – 11 age groups have participated. The rate of repeat players is also testament to its success, as well as the growing awareness of the benefits. In July the most successful G4Z to date was held at Melville City Soccer Club with 43 teams equating to 215 junior footballers playing the 4 vs 4 format.

The programme continues to evolve to ensure it remains at the cutting edge of all football development programmes in the A League.

Keeping the more successful parts of the programme and incorporating new ideas to stimulate players is the key. With this in mind the G4z format:

*Will now have an age group for 5 – 6 year olds on modified pitches, allowing more player participation
* Will be varying the dimensions of the pitch to suit player ages
* Utilise different types of goals in addition to Pugg style goals
* Scoring zones added on various pitches
* Provide An “Elite” or “Recreational” option to assist player development
* G4Z loyalty cards will be introduced with bonuses for repeat players.

The Community and Development coaching staff at Perth Glory FC believe these modifications are vital to continuously evolve and develop the programme. This in
turn will ensure that the football public of Western Australia are receiving the best and the most improvement-centred environment, to progress their football education.

Community and Development Manager Callum Salmon said “We’ve listened to the feedback of our participants and our own coach’s observations which has subsequently led to our programme continuing to evolve and improve.

“We are very happy with the modifications to our programme and we?re confident we can continue to provide a first class small sided games tournament that is arguably the best in the A League.”

“I’m especially looking forward to watching the 5 and 6 years olds game play as this is the first time they will be included in the tournament.”
