Perth Glory Football Club is proud to announce it has further boosted its local playing stocks after signing Western Australian raised Socceroo, Chris Herd for the next two Hyundai A-League campaigns.

A product of ECU Joondalup, Bayswater City and English Premier League outfit Aston Villa, Herd has been playing the world game in the UK since he was 15.

The 27-year old father of one was part of the Socceroos 2015 Asian Cup squad and has made three appearances for the green and gold since 2014.

“I’m thrilled to be coming home and re-joining some former teammates of old and working with Kenny Lowe” said an excited Herd.

“Pulling on the purple for Perth Glory has been something I’ve contemplated for a while and I’m keen and excited to be part of a club that is definitely on the way up. This is the right move for me, my football and my family”.

Herd appeared 36 times for Birmingham based Aston Villa and more recently made 20 appearances for League one club Chesterfield, where he has been playing on loan.

Perth Glory coach Kenny Lowe said Herd’s versatility, skill and strong work ethic were the key ingredients in signing the Socceroo.

“Good players carry a good work ethic but Chris is also a good person. We look at the playing ability but we also look at the person for the job. Chris ticks both boxes and he’s a West Aussie which is a bonus.

Herd’s addition to the Glory squad is the second new signing for next year after fellow Socceroo and Perth born Rhys Williams penned a one year deal.

“What you’re seeing is a gradual realisation of our Strategic Plan: The Perth Glory Way” said club CEO Peter Filopoulos.

“It’s part of our ongoing re-build and commitment to be the best club on and off the field in Australia. This is just another small building block to the plan” he said.

Herd will be the 13th Perth born or raised player contracted for next season.

Herd is expected to arrive in Perth in July to join the team for pre-season and has been contracted untill the end of the 2017/18 season.
