Perth Glory Women have secured a home final for the first time in two seasons, following a late 1-0 win over the Western Sydney Wanderers at Popondetta Park in New South Wales this afternoon.

Caitlin Doeglas struck in stoppage time to secure the three points and second spot (equal first with Canberra on points) on the Westfield W-League ladder, for Perth to earn the right to host a home semi-final against Sydney FC next weekend.

The match will be a curtain raiser to Perth Glory’s Hyundai A-League fixture against Newcastle Jets next Saturday night at nib Stadium, kicking off at 3.30pm.

Glory’s W-League coach Bobby Despotovski said he was thrilled with the result and happy his troops had achieved what they set out to do at the start of the season.

“The girls deserve to be in the position they are in. I was a bit disappointed for them not to take top spot, but from last year to this year it has been a vast improvement, from the coaching and across the whole organisation” he said.

“The players worked very hard for this and I want them to rise to the occasion and it’s only fitting to play at nib in the semi-final as well” he said.

It’s a fitting end to the end of the regular season for Doeglas who scored the match winner to secure the top-two finish. The youngster scored the fastest goal of the season for Glory, ironically against the Wanderers at nib Stadium in Round One.

“We dominated big parts of the game. With Sammy (Kerr) being suspended we missed her speed but its great Caitlin stepped up to grab the winner” Despotovski said.

Tickets to Glory’s Hyundai A-League match against the Jets will also guarantee free entry to the early W-League clash and can be purchased HERE.
