It was a special day for more than 80 children from the Perth Glory Juniors Program who were invited along to a meet and greet session with the Perth Glory team at McGillivray Oval on Wednesday.

After watching the Glory players put through their paces during a 90 minute training session, the talented youngsters were given the opportunity to chat, have a photo with their favourite players and grab an autograph.

International marquee defender William Gallas was particularly popular amongst the young fans while Captain Jacob Burns and reigning Most Glorious Player, Steven McGarry were also big hits.

The Perth Glory Juniors Program has been running since 2011 and seeks to identify talented young Western Australian players in age groups U8 – U12.

Capped at 200 players, the children are identified by Perth Glory coaches through a mixture of scouting at junior games throughout the Football West season, performances at Perth Glory Community Programs such as Glory Skills and Soccer Schools, and from recommendations by local club coaches.

Now in its third year, the annual ‘meet and greet- training session has always been a highlight and a great reward for the kids- dedication and commitment.

“So far the level of improvement from each player has been very good and bodes well for each player-s development,” Community and Development Manager Callum Salmon said.

“This type of session is always great because it offers a high level of connectivity and engagement that will provide a range of short and long term benefits for the kids hoping to emulate their heroes.”

“Being able to get up close and personal with their Perth Glory heroes is a wonderful privilege to be able to bestow on such a great bunch of kids.”
