Having been a part of the Melbourne City side that lifted the trophy in 2016, it’s fair to say that Ivan Franjic is a big fan of the FFA Cup.

And with Glory’s 2019 campaign in the competition set to get underway on Wednesday evening, when Western Sydney Wanderers will provide the opposition at Dorrien Gardens (6.30pm kick off), the experienced defender is determined to get his hands on another winners’ medal.

“We want to win every trophy that’s on offer this year,” he declared at Tuesday’s pre-match media conference.

“The FFA Cup is getting bigger and bigger every year and it would be good to see Glory’s name on the winners’ list.

“We’ve done seven weeks of pre-season now and are really looking forward to the game. We can’t wait to get out there.

“Pre-season has been tough, but after last season, there are high expectations on us and that is something we enjoy.

“It’s a new year and a new challenge…we want to continue to show everyone the team we were last year.”

Another former Cup winner within the Glory squad is Bruno Fornaroli and Franjic is looking forward to seeing the Uruguayan hit-man in action in the famous purple.

“They [the players that have come in] are all quality players, especially Bruno.

“I played with him at Melbourne City and we all know what he’s capable of. He knows how to find the back of the net and it’ll be exciting to see him in action on Wednesday and in the season ahead.

“Osama Malik has joined as well, plus the two boys from Brisbane [Dane Ingham and Nick D’Agostino], so we’ve signed a fair few players to strengthen and there’s more depth this year.

“It’s competition for places and you have to come to training and to games and perform every time.”
