Perth Glory is pleased to announce the signing of Hayden Foxe as Assistant Coach.

The experienced coach has joined Glory after signing on a three-year contract and will join Tony Popovic’s coaching staff alongside fellow former Socceroo Richard Garcia.

Foxe is a former centre-back who enjoyed time with current and former Premier League stalwarts including West Ham, Leeds United and Portsmouth during the early to mid 2000’s after learning his trade at the world-famous Ajax Amsterdam Academy setup.

The towering defender, best known for his professionalism and leadership, enjoyed a stellar club and international career spanning 14 years and included promotion to England’s top flight with Pompey in 2003 and 11 caps for the Socceroos.

Foxe was also a key figure for Australia during the 2000 Sydney Olympic games.

The Sydney-born coach returned to Australia in 2007 spending two seasons with Perth Glory before heading home to Sydney FC in 2010 where he went on to win the Hyundai A-League double in his one and only season with the Sky Blues.

Following his stint with Sydney, Foxe announced his retirement at the end of the 2010-2011 season and made the transition into coaching a year later as a Youth coach for the now defunct Melbourne Heart franchise. His quality was clear from the outset as he was promoted to Assistant Coach of the senior Heart side in 2013.

Foxe then linked up with Socceroos teammate Tony Popovic at Western Sydney in 2015 taking an Assistant role. In 2017 he took over as caretaker manager where he was undefeated in his five games in charge.

“It’s a really exciting project,” Foxe said. “We have a great squad and fantastic support from everyone at the club.”

“I’ve come back to Perth to continue to work with Tony Popovic. I’ve worked with him for three years, he has a winning mentality, he wants to win things and that’s something we share.”

“I want to win, I want us to be successful. Mediocracy is something I don’t want to accept. The plan is to pass that winning mentality and culture across the club on and off the pitch.”

“We’ll all be looking to fulfil the potential that this great football club has.”

Further announcements, including player announcements, are expected in the very near future.
