Robbie Fowler has starred on debut, scoring a goal and having a hand in three more as Perth Glory beat Rockingham City 8-nil in a pre-season friendly.

In front of more than 2000 fans at the Lark Hill Sportsplex, Fowler turned on the style in an impressive first hit-out.

The Liverpool legend struck with a neat finish on 21 minutes and also created goals for Steven McGarry, Michael Baird and Branko Jelic before coming off at half-time.

Jelic and Baird also looked sharp in their first match together with the Serbian striker on target twice while Baird also scored on his debut for the club.

With Jacob Burns missing through injury, Dave Mitchell fielded an attacking line up with Baird and Jelic up front and Fowler playing just behind the pair. Scottish midfielder McGarry controlled the tempo from the centre of midfield with Mile Sterjovski on the left and Scott Neville on the right.

Josh Mitchell was also given his first Glory start in central defence along with Jamie Coyne while Joshua Risdon and Sam Mitchinson were given starts at fullback.

With Perth leading 5-nil at half-time, Mitchell made whole sale changes in the second half, trialling a handful of promising youngsters.

Jesse Makarounas took his chance with two goals while Hanafi Ghazali completed the scoring.
