A record four Perth Glory Women-s players have been selected to play with the Westfield Matilda-s on their upcoming tour of New Zealand.

Sam Kerr, Katie Gill, Lisa DeVanna and Collette MacCallum have been selected for the national side, and will play against the New Zealand national team, the Football Ferns on the 17th and 20th February.

“These four young players are all extremely talented and well worthy of their position in the national team.

“It is great to see WA so well represented on a national level, and a sign of great things to come from female footballers in the state,” John Gibson, Perth Glory Women-s head coach said.

Kerr, the sister of West Coast Eagles midfielder Daniel Kerr, will be the youngest member of the Westfield Matildas squad at age 16, but the talented young player brings with her plenty of experience, having won the ‘Players Player- award at the 2009 Westfield W-League Awards.

“Yeah it-s great because normally we don-t have too many players in the team from Perth,” Kerr said.

And for Kerr, it-s another chance to shine on the biggest stage after making her international debut for the Westfield Matilda-s as a substitute against Italy last January.

“I don-t think I-ll get to many minutes but every little bit counts and hopefully I gain some more experience and see what its like to play at the highest level.”

The Perth Glory Women-s team played their last W-League match in December but Kerr says her fitness is still sharp.

“I had a bit of a break until the end of the year and then we went into a training camp with the Matilda-s squad so I have kept very active.

The Westfield Matildas are currently in preparation for their 2010 Asia Cup campaign in Chengdu, China in May which is the qualifying tournament for the FIFA Women-s World Cup 2011 in Germany.
