Former Perth Glory midfielder Nick Ward has joined Wellington Phoenix and will be available for selection for this Sunday-s marquee match at nib Stadium.

Ward was released from Melbourne Victory, after playing 59 games in two and a half years, including the clubs treble-winning season in 2008/09.

“I-m sad to be leaving Melbourne but the prospect of first-team football at the Phoenix was obviously very appealing.

“I want to be playing week in, week out and I feel I have a better chance of regular football with Wellington.

“I-ve enjoyed my time in Melbourne and met some great people along the way.

“We-re parting on good terms and I wish the guys the best of luck for the rest of the season,” Ward said.

The 25 year old scored 5 goals from 21 matches for Perth Glory in the 2005/06 Hyundai A-League season and was voted the competitions Young Player of the Year.

While Ward is a chance to line-up against his old club, another former Glory star will miss out with Jade North away on Socceroos duty.

North is one of two big names missing from Ricki Herbert-s squad along with right back Manny Muscat, who has been called into the Maltese squad for matches against Israel and Latvia.
