New Perth Glory interim coach Ian Ferguson has highlighted a few key areas of improvement after his first game in charge. Here are the post match comments following Friday night-s narrow loss to North Queensland Fury.

Ian Ferguson, Perth Glory interim head coach:

“The buck lies with me and I know the result’s not a great result, but I was pleased with the performance in patches of the game – we’ve just got to be more consistent.

“There’s a few things (to work on) and obviously defending is one of them.

“As we’ve seen, we could maybe put a bit more pressure on them and we’ll be working that with the high-press and things like that.

“Also midfield closing and strikers holding the balls up, so there’s quite a bit to work on.

“But as I said, I was pleased in patches, and the first 30 minutes I thought was good.

“We were getting at them and the second half, the last 15 to 20 minutes, we had the goalkeeper up in two corners and we maybe could have nicked something, but unfortunately we didn’t.”

Steven McGarry, Perth Glory midfielder:

“It-s been a disappointing week with Dave stepping down.

“I thought we showed a lot of commitment but it wasn-t good enough.

“We need to stick together as a team and get down and battle.”
